Hello. I am Michelle Tate, founder of unbroken. This is my story, why this brand exists, and the mission we are building together. My daughter, Angelique, is part of this journey and part of the story behind unbroken.
For those of you navigating the complexities of chronic illness, whether you are facing Multiple Sclerosis, cancer, or any other long-term medical challenge, you are the reason I am here. You are the warriors.
The Origin of unbroken.
The concept for unbroken. did not originate in a boardroom or a design studio. It began in the quiet, sterile reality of treatment rooms and the repetitive cycle of medical appointments. When you spend a significant portion of your time in infusion chairs or waiting rooms, your perspective on clothing changes. You realize that most standard apparel is not designed for the physical and emotional weight of chronic illness.
I saw a gap between "patient wear" and "everyday wear." I wanted to create something that acknowledged the difficulty of the journey without sacrificing the dignity of the person wearing it. My goal was to develop a support system that manifests as clothing, pieces that provide physical comfort during difficult treatments while serving as a visual reminder of inner strength.

The Mission: Functional Support
Our mission at unbroken. is simple: to provide adaptive and inspirational clothing that serves the needs of the warrior community. We prioritize function because we know that when your body is under stress, your clothing should not be an additional source of discomfort.
When I started designing these pieces, I focused on the specific needs of individuals undergoing treatment. This includes:
- Ease of Access: Treatment days often require access to ports, IV lines, or various monitors.
- Temperature Regulation: Medical environments are frequently cold, yet hormonal shifts or treatment side effects can cause sudden overheating.
- Sensory Comfort: During flare-ups or chemotherapy, skin can become hypersensitive. Soft, non-irritating fabrics are a necessity, not a luxury.
By focusing on these utilitarian needs, we create products that allow you to focus on your health rather than your outfit.
The Power of Sisterhood
While the clothing is the physical product, the core of unbroken. is sisterhood. I believe that no one should have to walk the path of chronic illness alone. There is a specific kind of strength that is found only when women support women.
In our community, "sisterhood" means more than just a social connection. It is a shared understanding of the specific fatigue, the "brain fog," the anxiety of scan days, and the quiet victories of a "good day." I wanted unbroken. to be a flag that warriors could fly, a way to recognize each other in the wild and know that you are part of something larger.

When you see someone wearing the Unbroken Classic Crewneck, it is an invitation to connect. It is a signal that says, "I understand." This connection is vital for mental and emotional resilience.
Product Specifications and Functional Design
We maintain a minimalist aesthetic because we believe the message should be clear and the focus should remain on the person. Our apparel line is structured to provide maximum utility for daily life and medical appointments.
Core Apparel Items:
- Unisex Hoodie: This is a foundational piece. The Unisex Hoodie features a heavy fabric weight to provide warmth in cold infusion centers. The hood offers a sense of privacy and "cocooning" during long treatment sessions.
- Fleece Sweatpants: The Unbroken Unisex Fleece Sweatpants are designed for long periods of sitting or resting. The elastic waist ensures comfort during bloating or abdominal sensitivity, and the fleece lining provides a soft barrier against the skin.
- Fleece Pullover: For a lighter layer, the Unbroken Unisex Fleece Pullover serves as an ideal mid-layer for shifting environments.
Every item in our collection is chosen for its durability and its ability to withstand frequent washing, a necessity for those dealing with frequent medical visits.

A Community for Warriors
I often refer to our customers and followers as "warriors." This is not a term I use lightly. To be a warrior in the context of chronic illness means to show up for yourself every single day, even when the odds feel stacked against you. It means finding the "unbroken" part of your spirit even when your body feels fragile.
My role as founder is to help facilitate this community. I am here to listen to your stories and to ensure that the products we create continue to serve your real-world needs. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our designs based on the feedback from the people who wear them.
If you are new here, I want you to know that you are welcome exactly as you are. You do not need to be "performing" strength. You just need to be here.
Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow, our focus will remain on the intersection of fashion, function, and community support. We are more than just an e-commerce brand; we are a resource. Whether you are looking for a gift for a loved one starting chemotherapy or you are looking for a hardcover notebook to track your symptoms and appointments, we are here to provide tools for your journey.

The journey of chronic illness is long, and it is rarely a straight line. There will be setbacks, and there will be breakthroughs. Through it all, the mission of unbroken. remains constant: to keep you comfortable, to keep you connected, and to remind you of the strength you already possess.
